found an ipad in public, tried to return it by showing it to local suburb facebook groups and giving it wifi so owner can do the find my device, no one came.
looked at the screen under bright light at an angle where I could see the fingerprint smudges and tried to guess the passcode
failed too many times and now it locked itself and it's asking for icloud credentials to unlock ipad
has anyone get pass the lock screen on apple device before? or change OS or some kind of jailbreaking that will unlock the ipad? or anything i can do so its not a brick?

It's highly unlikely you'll find a way to get in. Apple is tight with security and anyone who knows a bypass probably keeps it quiet for themselves. Your best bet might be to keep the iPad off and wifi disabled for a few years for jailbreaks/exploits to be released in the meantime for its current OS version. Once a few years have passed you're now more likely to find a way in. Such has been the case with other Apple products // other devices in the past.

You should let me know if you find anything because I have an Ipad gen 1 I think that used to belong to a school. I contacted Apple and then they told me to contact the school system. Then they told me to contact Apple... so yeah.
